First stop, London!

  • There are two major airports in the London area: Heathrow Airport (LHR)and London Gatwick Airport (LGW). We have flown into both airports and they were both fine experiences.

  • We typically search for flights using www.google.com/travel/flights and highly recommend tracking a flight for a bit because prices fluctuate quite a lot.

Once you arrive at the airport, both airports have convenient trains that will bring you to downtown London:

  • Arriving in Heathrow: There is a direct train departing from Heathrow Terminals 2 & 3 and arriving at Piccadilly Circus station. Services depart every five minutes and it costs about £5.80. The journey takes approximately 48 min. Instructions here.

  • Arriving in Gatwick: You'll need to take a Thameslink train to Farringdon station and then transfer to the Elizabeth line for a direct journey to Paddington Station. The train departs every 30 minutes - the Thameslink costs £13.90 and the Elizabeth line is £1-3 Instructions here.

The easiest way to get to Cornwall is by train.

  • By Train: Leaving from Paddington Station, you’ll take the Great Western Railway train toward Penzance (yes, there are pirates there). The train ticket costs about £75 (one-way) and it is about 4 hours. You will ride the train until the Saltash station. Instructions here.

  • By Bus: The bus picks up directly from London Heathrow airport. It is a bit cheaper than the train but does take longer. The bus stops about halfway through the journey at a service plaza for about 20 minutes. It’s not too bad! Info here.
